Let’s Make Something Cool

Whether a portrait of your favorite musician or your family, portraits are personal to each individual piece, and I would love to craft something beautiful for you, your family, friends, or arch enemy.

I am currently accepting limited commissions. Most commissions are in acrylic paint on canvas, but I am open to discussing other mediums if you have something in mind.

Prices can vary based on number of subjects, size and medium. My most popular- an 18”x24” acrylic portrait of two people with a simple background runs about $700.

Sizes available are between 8”x10” and 36”x48”. Any larger than 36”x48” is unwieldy to work with in my studio space, but I am open to discussing it.

First thing’s first, fill out the commission form. This will give me a broad idea of the project. Be as descriptive as you can, don’t worry if it sounds silly. I love silly.

Then I’ll reach out to get some more information, such as size, timeline, and reference photos. For reference photos more is more.

  • For reference photos I would like-

    • Images of the subjects together. If there is a particular pose or photograph you would like me to use please let me know. If you are sending pictures from a photoshoot where there are multiple photos in the same location or by the same photographer please share as many as possible.

    • Images of the subjects. Individually or together. This helps me get a feel for personality, relationship, and a view of different angles on the subjects

    • If you are adding some one in who is not in the original photo (memorial paintings or for people who missed an event) please add multiple pictures of them, preferably in similar poses, angles, or lighting conditions as the photo you would like as the primary reference.

    • Images of the background if you want something specific

We’ll discuss what you’re looking for in your painting, some considerations once the basics are decided are

  • Color Scheme

  • Mood or Vibe

  • Stories you’d like to tell

  • How the final painting will be displayed

  • Particular aspects of the subjects that you want to make sure are captured.

    • What might be a clear feature of someone you know might not be clear to me.

Next I’ll give you a price and you’ll pay half down upfront. This allows me to buy the canvas, supplies, and to be sure I’m not going to get burned in the process.

I’ll work on the piece. If you like. I’m happy to send pictures of the work in progress. I like to stay in touch during the process.

Once the piece is finished, dried, and varnished, I’ll pack it to ship then invoice you for the cost of shipping

  • Shipping cost is not included in my prices because I am never quite sure how much it’s going to cost. I do not up-charge for shipping and I always make sure to get a tracking number. As soon as I have all that I will send it along to you.

Once you’ve paid the remainder of your balance I’ll send it off and send you a tracking number.

Finally, I hope you’ll share it with your friends and social media. If you permit me I’ll post it on my social media as well.

Commission Process

Commissions FAQs

How long does the process usually take?

It depends on size, complexity and medium. But for an acrylic 18x24, my most popular size, about 6 weeks, sometimes quicker. I have a day job so sometimes my painting time is limited. If I have a queue of commissions it will likely be longer, but I will let you know up front.

I don’t want a portrait of my family. I want one of (Celebrity, Politician, Historical figure). Can you do that?

Absolutely. Most of the portraits I do are of celebrities or other public figures. I reserve the right to decline if the subject is too loathsome for me.

I really want a portrait of (Fictional Character), but they don’t exist to have reference pictures. Can you still do that?

Oh yes. We’ll work together to make sure it’s just right.

Do you do NSFW/Nudes?

Sure. I’ll have some more questions (is everyone involved of age and consenting?) If you want something outright pornographic I usually limit those commissions to digital.

Why are your paintings so expensive?

They’re really not. These are completely individual works of art, created by hand by an artist with decades of experience.

Do you work for free/exposure/experience?

No.

I’d like to set up a trade with you. A painting for (Service, Product etc). Are you open to that?

Honestly, maybe. Let’s talk. I’ve done talent trades with artists and craftsmen of various kinds and almost always found it a wonderful experience.

I want to do something kind of strange. Can you do something unusual?

Yes. Weird is my favorite. Do you want everything set in a different era? Yes. Do you want an elegant goth portrait? Hell yeah. What about evil clowns? You know it. Do you want all of the humans to have animal heads? Absolutely. Fursona couples portrait? I love Love. Do you want a smiling family portrait with smouldering rubble behind them? You bet. A family portrait that looks like a 1970’s sci fi paperback cover? I love it. Let’s talk. If I don’t think I can handle it, I’ll let you know.

Can you include our pet in the portrait?

Totally!

Is shipping included in your prices?

No, shipping costs can vary pretty wildly. Once the painting is finished I’ll take it to be packaged and shipped and give you a price. I don’t upcharge for shipping.
